Mamintal H. Tamano
Senator Tamano was born on December 25, 1928 in Tamparan, Lanao del Sur.
He finished his secondary course at Lanao High School, valedictorian. He graduated Bachelor of Arts in 1952 and Bachelor of Laws in 1953 both at the University of the Philippines. Senator Tamano acquired Master of Laws at the Cornell University, U.S.A. in 1958.
Formerly Justice of Peace in Lanao, he was also vice-governor for ten years from 1959 to 1969 in Lanao del Sur. He was elected Senator of the Philippines from 1969 to 1972 and 1987 to 19892. As a Senator, he worked for the autonomy for the Muslims and the rest of Mindanao and on Mindanao’s natural resources to upgrade the conditions of that islands. He became a member of President Corazon Aquino’s cabinet as Deputy Minister of Foreign Relations in 1986.
Senator Tamano was married to Haji Putri Zorayda Abbas with whom he had nine children.
