On the celebration of the 34th Cordillera Day

Isang mapagpalayang araw at malugod na pagbati sa inyong lahat.

First of all, I would like to convey my sincerest congratulations to the Cordillera Peoples Alliance, Tongtongan Ti Umili-CPA Baguio and Ibagiw organization, for spearheading this significant event in line with the regionally centralized celebration of the 34th Cordillera Day.

Thank you for providing a venue where our leaders in the different sectors of society can convene, share views, and encourage actions to fight tyranny and raise awareness on the different issues that need to be addressed and resolved.

Ang iba nga po sa inyo, malayo pa ang pinanggalingan. Pero hindi ninyo inalintana ang haba ng biyahe para makiisa at makilahok sa pagtitipong ito--para mapabuti ang kalagayan ng ating kapwa at makapag-ambag ng solusyon sa problema ng ating mga komunidad at ng buong bansa.

Noong nakaraang eleksyon, maraming sinabi si Duterte na tutugunan niya sa loob lang ng tatlo hanggang anim na buwan. Pero ang kinalabasan, puro pangako at pagyayabang lang.

Ang sigaw nila noon: Tapang at malasakit.

Ang tanong natin magpasahanggang ngayon: Nasaan?

Matapang ba ang pagpapakulong at panggigipit sa mga kritiko ng gobyerno para patahimikin sila at maging sunud-sunuran lang kay Duterte? Matapang ba ang pabayaan at ipamigay ang ating mga teritoryo? Eh ang pag-aresto sa 71 taong gulang na madre dahil banta raw siya sa gobyerno?

Malasakit ba ang pagpatay sa mahigit 20,000 Pilipino na karamihan ay nabibilang sa mahihirap at pinaslang nang walang kalaban-laban? Malasakit ba ang pagtulak sa isang batas para taasan ang buwis sa mga pangunahing bilihin? Malasakit ba ang kawalan ng supply ng murang bigas?

These are the questions that we should all keep asking our present leaders, especially the President who always boasts of being pro-poor and patriotic. We have seen him avoid these questions and divert the issue with his foul mouth and baseless accusations instead of facing them head on.

Sa halip na sagutin ang kritisismo sa kanyang baluktot na polisiya at mga katiwalian sa kanyang rehimen, todo daldal lang itong si Duterte. Nag-iingay para maiba ang usapan. Puro kabastusan. Puro palusot, pagmumura at kasinungalingan.

At kung mananahimik nga lang po tayo, lalo lang siyang aabuso, lalo na ngayon na niluluto na ng kanyang mga kaalyado ang Cha-Cha at Pederalismo.

This is the reason why I will not let myself be cowed by a tyrant. Despite the continued political persecution against me, I will continue to speak out for the truth and stand up for justice, human rights and democracy.

As of today, I have already filed 80 bills and 80 resolutions, 57 and 68 respectively, were filed while I am in detention. Part of these measures is the investigation of the brazen killings in the country, and a call for the Senate to probe the human rights abuses persistently committed against our indigenous peoples, including the killings of Lumads and their community leaders. I have condemned and reiterated the need to address the recurring concerns involving disputes over ancestral domains, ancestral lands, and titles.

I am also one with you in exerting the right to self-determination and the aspiration of the Cordillera for a genuine autonomy. Makakaasa kayo sa aking suporta sa paglalatag ng mas malawak na oportunidad sa rehiyon, gayundin para sa isang mas mapayapa at mas maunlad na Cordillera na hangad nating ipamana sa mga susunod pang henerasyon.

Ito nga po ang mga isyung dapat tutukan ng gobyerno, hindi lamang ang pekeng Drug War, kung saan inaabswelto lang naman ang mga tunay na kriminal at drug lords.

Malinaw po: Walang mangyayari kung manhid na nga ang ating gobyerno, ay kukunsintihin pa natin sila sa ating pananahimik at pagwawalang-kibo.

Our collective stand: Stop political persecution! Stop the lies! Stop the killings now!

Let us always stand united against a tyrant and an abusive government. Against all odds, let us persistently defend our rights and liberties. Let us uphold the truth and justice, and pursue an inclusive growth that is genuinely beneficial to all.
