Villar SIPAG opens freshwater aquaculture training

Sen. Cynthia Villar announced the holding of the freshwater aquaculture training at the Villar SIPAG Farm School in Bacoor City, Cavite starting May 16.

Villar, director of Villar Social Institute for Poverty Alleviation and Governance (Villar SIPAG), said the training course provides an opportunity for participants to not only learn from the experts on aquaculture but also from businessmen who have ventured into commercial fish farming.

"We should take advantage of the uptrend in aquaculture globally, which at present is fulfilling nearly half the world's demand for fish," Villar said.

Villar SIPAG partnered with the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources to hold the 10-day training for free. The topics will be divided into four topics: 1) Freshwater aquaculture (3 days); 2) Ornamental fish production (3 days); 3) Aquaponics (2 days); and 4) Aquascaping (2 days).

About 30 participants are expected to undergo training who will stay in the dormitories inside the farm until the end of the training.
