Biazon Withdraws Signature From Resolution No. 10

Senator Rodolfo G Biazon today said Senate Resolution No. 10 of Sen. Aquilino Pimentel , the vehicle that is the means to effect charter change for the Philippines to shift to a federal form of government could be taking a u-turn slot back to where it came from - "NOWHERE".

"Because of the expressed support by Malacanang and the statements coming out from the proponents in the House of Representatives, a lot of slippery and winding roads loom ahead that pose danger to the charter change move."

"Many of those who signed Resolution No. 10 signed not because of positive support to the proposed amendments to the charter but was an expression of desire to put the issue to extensive public consultation and debate so that the public may be informed on the nature of this constitutional move to amend the charter. The public needs to be informed on the advantages and disadvantages of a federal system of government so that when the public is finally called upon to render a judgment on plebiscite day, they are well informed."

"But, because of the expressed desire of Malacanang and its supporters in the House of Representatives, the previous negative reception to the idea of charter change has been resurrected."

"It is therefore not surprising that Senators who had affixed their signatures to the Resolution No. 10 of Senator Pimentel may be withdrawing."

"I AM WITHDRAWING MY SIGNATURE AND WILL ONLY AFFIX MY SIGNATURE WHEN I SEE THAT THE SLIPPERY WINDING ROAD IS ALREADY PAVED SAFELY."

"Meaning, any change to the Constitution will be effected after 2010, " Biazon concluded.
