LEGISLATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENTS (Laws and bills authored and sponsored)

Republic Act 9502 "Universally Accessible Cheaper and Quality Medicines Law of 2008" – Amends certain provisions of the Intellectual Property Code and provides other mechanisms to ensure access to affordable but quality drugs.

Republic Act 9349 "Hospital Detention Law" - Prohibits any hospital or medical clinic from detaining charity patients for nonpayment of their hospital bills or medical expenses.

Republic Act 9482 "National Anti-Rabies Law" - Mandates responsible dog ownership and requires dog owners to have their pets immunized against rabies and registered with their local government units.

Republic Act 9513 “Renewable Energy Act of 2008” – promotes the development, utilization, and commercialization of renewable energy sources in the Philippines. Republic Act 9367 “Biofuels Law” - Reduces the country’s dependence on imported fossil fuels, protects public health and the natural ecosystem, and supports domestic industries engaged in biofuels production.

Republic Act 9483 "Oil Spill Liability Law" - Institutes a mechanism for the prevention, mitigation and control of oil pollution.

Republic Act 9512 “Environmental Awareness and Education Act of 2008” – Mandates the integration of environmental education in the curriculum of each school level, including barangay daycare, preschool, non-formal, technical vocational, professional level, indigenous learning and out-of school youth courses or programs.

Republic Act 9500 “University of the Philippines Charter of 2008” – Strengthens the century-old charter of the University of the Philippines by incorporating salient provisions that will fortify its role as the national university.

She is likewise the sponsor of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Act of 2009, which seeks to strengthen the regulatory capacity of the current Bureau of Food and Drugs and the Bureau of Health and Devices and Technology to ensure the safety and efficacy of health products including food, drugs, cosmetics, devices, biologicals, vaccines, in-vitro diagnostic reagents and household/urban hazardous circumstances. This bill has been approved by Congress and is yet to be signed into law by the President.

She is a co-author of the Magna Carta of Women which seeks to create a Magna Carta that embodies the comprehensive rights and responsibilities of women and thus strengthen the promotion of gender equality in the country. This bill is also awaiting the signature of the President.

Pinay in Action - Pinay In Action was created primarily to empower women and girls by providing venues for a healthier lifestyle and tools and information for a better future. Its main activities include all-women sports events, fitness clinics, inspirational talks and seminars on women’s health, anti-violence against women, breastfeeding, photo exhibits and fora. Bike for Hope – is an advocacy ride and fund-raising campaign spearheaded by Senator Pia Cayetano under the Companero Rene Cayetano Foundation, Inc. It emphasizes the importance of a healthy lifestyle, including preventive healthcare, maternal and child care, and women rights and raise consciousness and responsibility on environmental matters.
