NANCY MOURNS SEC. GINA'S PASSING

Senator Nancy Binay joined in the outpouring of grief over the death of former Environment Secretary Gina Lopez.

Lopez, who had been battling brain cancer, died on Monday, April 19 aged 65.

"Sec. Gina Lopez was such a passionate, selfless eco-warrior who has given much to the country," Binay said.

She added that Lopez had inspired many Filipinos.

"She has shown us the meaning of hope, and has inspired many of us in a big way," said Binay.

Binay, who chairs the Senate Committee on Tourism, also said that she admired the noted environmentalist's invaluable inputs on sustainable tourism.

She noted how Lopez's "efforts to mainstream the issue of environmental protection in our tourism policies have positively influenced villages and communities."

"Her advocacies have now become living showcases of her passion," Binay also said.

The legislator also described Lopez as a person "who always followed her heart."

"Her deep desire to focus on the positive, her peerless efforts to protect our environment and help the underprivileged will surely be missed," the legislator said.
