Statement of Sen. Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan on Eid'l Adha
Our warmest greetings to the Muslim community, particularly to our brothers and sisters among Muslim Filipinos, as you celebrate this year's Eid'l Adha, the Feast of Sacrifice. We non-Muslims take the occasion to learn that Eid'l Adha is one of Islam's great feasts because of its message of steadfast faith and sacrifice for the greater good -- values which all of us Filipinos share. We rediscover that Eid'l Adha is the 10th day in the month of Hajj or Islamic Pilgrimage to Mecca when Muslims pay homage to Abraham's supreme act of sacrifice, a sacrifice rooted in love for all creation. We remember that the 14th Congress enacted Republic Act 9849, the law declaring Eid'l Adha a holiday, recognizing the value of and the need to respect the minority voice. We take to heart these lessons as we, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, face the challenges of our times as individuals, as a community, and as a nation. May we not waver or give up despite the hardships, faithful in our belief in the power of love. |
