Villanueva's statement on the bicam approval of the Bangsamoro Basic Law

After six long days of meeting with the bicameral conference committee members on the Bangsamoro Basic Law (BBL), we finally approved the measure that hopefully will bring peace and promote development in the Bangsamoro region.

We commend our fellow lawmakers in both houses, our respective staff members, the members of the Bangsamoro Transition Committee (BTC), and all the stakeholders, for all the hard work they put into the passage of this bill.

We also express our gratitude to the bicam panel for adopting the provisions we have forwarded such as the full inclusion of the indigenous people's rights to ensure that their ethnic identity and rights will be retained and respected, and the provision for the full guarantee and exposition of religious belief and creed in the Bangsamoro territory regardless of denomination, membership or affiliation.

We hope that this can be the start of a peaceful and progressive future for the Bangsamoro, the people of Mindanao and the Philippines as a whole. We sincerely hope that the passage of this measure will usher a new era of collective prosperity and harmony for our brothers and sisters in Mindanao and the Filipino people.
