POE TO LEAD 3rd PUBLIC HEARING ON TRAIN LAW

The Senate committee on public services chaired by Sen. Grace Poe will hold its third public hearing on the effects of the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law on public services and utilities, particularly on transportation, fuel, electricity and water.

The hearing will be held on Wednesday, July 18, 10 a.m., at the University of Science and Technology Southern Philippines' Engineering Complex, Performing Arts Theater, 6th floor, C. M. Recto Avenue, Lapasan, Cagayan de Oro City, Province of Misamis Oriental.

Poe's panel has invited Cabinet members led by Department of Transportation (DOTr) Sec. Arthur Tugade, Socioeconomic Planning Sec. Ernesto Pernia, Finance Sec. Carlos Dominguez III and Energy Sec. Alfonso Cusi, as well as Cagayan de Oro City Mayor Oscar Moreno and Vice Mayor Raineir Uy, Mindanao transport leaders, among others.

Following her earlier public hearings, Poe urged key Cabinet members to immediately release the subsidies to the beneficiaries, such as fuel vouchers for jeepney drivers, fare discounts and rice subsidies to low-income earners and financial aid to poor families and indigent senior citizens.

Poe's panel will also tackle various measures seeking to create district offices of the Land Transportation Office in Mindanao, as well as franchise applications of local broadcast stations.
