Villanueva's statement on Duterte's move to repatriate OFWs from Kuwait

We support the government's plan to repatriate our overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) from Kuwait.

No Filipino worker should be treated like a slave more so in a foreign land.

The numerous human rights abuses suffered by our people at the hands of abusive Kuwaiti employers needs to stop now.

We commend our government for taking a bold step in calling for their repatriation to end their sufferings. However, we need to formulate a solid plan to make this work.

We therefore call for the government to prepare for a concrete plan that would match the profile of our returning OFWs with the available jobs here or abroad. This would then ?ensure that available economic opportunities will be present for our OFWs who choose to come back in our country.
