Former SEABA cager, Senator Joel Villanueva, throws full support to PH team

Senator Joel Villanueva has expressed his support to the Philippine basketball team who will be playing in the upcoming Southeast Asia Basketball Association (SEABA) which will be held in the Philippines on May 12-18, 2017.

Villanueva, a former SEABA point guard, said he has high hopes for the Gilas Pilipinas that they will come out victorious against other competing SEABA member countries.

Villanueva was part of the 12-member Philippine team who competed in the very first SEABA tournament held in Johore, Malaysia on April 10-16, 1994.

"Looking back 23 years ago, being part of the SEABA Championship was a responsibility that I took seriously. It was one of the best days of my life and a dream come true. It was truly an honor to play for our country," Villanueva shared.

"I wish the pool members of Gilas Pilipinas all the best on their upcoming games that will lead to the championship. I am positive that our Philippine team won't fail and would surely bring us the sweet victory that we had once fought for," Villanueva added.

The senator also encouraged Filipino basketball fans to give their all-out support to our country's basketball team.

The Gilas Pilipinas will start the ground breaking as they face Myanmar on May 12 at the Araneta Coliseum.

The 2017 SEABA Championship serves as a qualifier for the 2017 FIBA-Asia Cup and only the champion will get the opportunity to advance.
