SOLDIERS, POLICEMEN TOLD: PAY INCREASE FROM AQUINO EO, NOT DUTERTE

Senator Antonio "Sonny" F. Trillanes IV yesterday reminded the AFP and PNP personnel that their pay increase for 2017 is the second tranche of Executive Order 201 signed by then President Noynoy Aquino in 2016, and was not due to President Rodrigo Duterte's efforts.

According to Trillanes: "Our military and police personnel should be aware that their allowances, together with the salaries of all government employees, have significantly increased since 2016, and will continue to increase until 2019. This increase is actualized by Executive Order 201 signed by the previous administration. President Duterte has nothing to do with this. His promise to double the salaries of soldiers and policemen remains an unfulfilled promise."

Last week, Marine Colonel Edgard Arevalo, chief of the AFP Public Affairs Office, expressed gratitude to Duterte for the military personnel's compensation increase. He stated that the soldiers, airmen, sailors and marines, including civilian personnel, were happily surprised when they received their respective increases reflected in their first pay slip for the year 2017.

Under the second tranche of EO 201, military, police and other uniformed personnel would receive increase in their monthly: provisional allowance, ranging from Php547 to Php35,260; hazard pay, amounting to Php570; and officers' allowance, ranging from Php3,000 to Php18,000.
