POE VOWS TO REV UP MANUFACTURING SECTOR, HAILS WORKERS

Boosting the manufacturing sector will be among the focus of Senator Grace Poe once elected, saying that this move would help address the jobless growth the country is experiencing.

In a visit to Yazaki-Torres Manufacturing Inc. plant in Calamba, Laguna on Monday, April 11, Poe hailed its workers for being world-class and for serving as the backbone of the economy.

Wala tayong iiwan sa kaunlaran," she said.

Touring the plant, Poe observed the workers engaged in the production of wiring harness for various brands of cars.

Yazaki-Torres makes wiring harnesses, automobile instruments, battery cables and other automotive parts at its facility in Calamba.

Poe said it was time for government to step up its support for the manufacturing sector and its workers, considering their contributions to the economy and their potentials in sustainable development.

From an annual growth rate of 5.4 percent in 2012, the manufacturing sector grew by 10.5 percent in 2013 and 8.1 in 2014, the government's central portal on industry policies (industry.gov.ph) showed.

She said that the country's robust growth should be meaningful, one that actually results in poverty reduction and does not only benefit the rich and the middle class.
