BONGBONG MARCOS KEEPS LEAD IN NEW SURVEY

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. has kept his momentum as he maintained his lead over his rivals in the vice presidential race.

In the non-commissioned Pulso ng Pilipino survey conducted by the Issues and Advocacy Center from April 1 to 7, 2016, Marcos kept his lead at 28.5 percent, up from his previous 27 percent taken from March 16-22, 2016 by the same firm.

Camarines Sur Rep. Leni Robredo was in second place at 23.5 percent overtaking Senator Francis Escudero who got 22.5 percent.

Senator Allan Peter Cayetano took the fourth spot at 16 percent followed by Senator Gregorio Honasan at 4.25 percent and Senator Antonio Trillanes IV at 3.75 percent. 1.75 percent were undecided,

Marcos also led in the A/B, D and E socio-economic classes with 27 percent, 23 percent and 24 percent respectively.

Ed Malay, Director of IAC, said the survey, which is part of their public advocacy aimed at giving select publics with information relative to the May 9, 2016 elections, has a confidence level of 98 percent and a margin of error of plus or minus 2.5 percent.

In the presidential race Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte kept his lead at 29 percent, followed by Senator Grace Poe at 24 percent. Taking the third spot was Vice President Jejomar Binay at 22 percent followed by former Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas at 19 percent. Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago was at fifth place with 2 percent. 3 percent were undecided.

Malay said the rise of Marcos could be attributed to the so-called Marcos loyalists who are not only from the Solid North but have migrated to other parts of the country.

"Largely ignored in the last 30 years, the families and extended families of these Marcos loyalists, some of whom have migrated to other parts of the country and have managed to win mayoralty positions where they now reside are actively campaigning for Senator Marcos and this explains why (he) currently leads the vice presidential race," Malay said.

Marcos, in an earlier interview said while he is thankful for the support, he had stopped looking at surveys because they give different results. "I just continue to focus on my campaign and my advocacy for national unity because I believe it is what our country needs right now to move forward and give our people the service that they deserve," Marcos said.
