NO NEED TO PROBE 'APPARENT INCOMPETENCE'
OF NAIA OFFICIALS - BONGBONG MARCOS

Vice presidential candidate Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. today dismissed all proposals to conduct an investigation on the five-hour power outage at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) saying there is no need to probe something that is already very obvious to everyone.

He said the power outage in the international airport was caused by plain and simple incompetence by the people who are running the airport.

"Hindi na kailangan ng imbestigasyon yan, maliwanag na hindi nila ginagawa ang trabaho nila" he said.

He said that he has long been calling for the resignation of the officials running the airport starting with Manila International Airport Administration General Manager Jose Angel Honrado. He's really incompetent. I don't know why he's still there," he said.

Marcos had earlier called for the sacking of Honrado over the bullet-planting extortion scam (tanim-bala) at the NAIA allegedly perpetuated by airport personnel.

The senator further said providing generators and making sure that they work when the need arises is a basic safety requirement that should be part of the airport's standard operating procedure.

It is a safety issue. Kung mamatay ang kuryente, halimbawa sa tower, wala silang mabibigay na instruction sa mga eroplanong gustong lumanding," he pointed out.

The issue of power interruptions has long been raised because of the summer season, according to Marcos, which is the reason why he found it very absurd that the airports generators were not working at the time of the brownout.

He added that with the way the country's premier airport is run, it should serve as a lesson to the incoming administration to appoint only the most qualified people in government and not based appointments on political accommodation.
