SEN. MARCOS SEEKS BLESSINGS OF OUR LADY OF PIAT

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos Jr. today sought the blessings of the venerated Our of Lady of Piat in Cagayan Valley to guide him in whatever path he takes.

Taking a short break from his Unity Caravan in Cagayan, Marcos dropped by the famous image of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Basilica Minore in Piat town. In an interview, Marcos said it brings him happiness to drop by the 16th century icon. "Laging maganda na makapunta sa Basilica at manalangin nang kaunti para tayo mabantayan, maalalayan ng Our Lady of Piat. We are happy I was able to come by at least to get the blessings of Father (Jaime) Herrera here in Basilica," he said

When asked what he prayed for, Marcos said he asked for guidance and strength to follow God's will. "Ang dasal ko naman lagi eh to be shown the way and that we follow the way and follow God's will and whatever that is, we ask Him to guide us," he stated.

The Our Lady of Piat is one of the most venerated icons of the Blessed Virgin because it is said to be miraculous. The icon was sculptured in Macao and brought to the country in 1604 by Dominican Missionaries.

When asked about the moves to stop his vice presidential bid, Marcos said it is something that he has expected and accepted as part of the political process.

"Like any other candidate there are people who are opposing. So hindi naman talaga nakakagulat . Lahat naman ng kandidato ay may bumabatikos so kasama na rin yan sa proseso ng pagkampanya kaya't it's not unexpected," he stressed.

He further said his critics should let the people decide on who they will vote for. "Karapatan ng tao (ang magpahayag pero) hayaan natin ang tao ang maghusga. Kaya tayo naghahalalan para maghusga ang mga tao," he said.
