Poe, Marcos top Magdalo latest survey

Senator Grace Poe regains the top spot in the latest Magdalo survey conducted one week before the start of campaign period for national posts.

Poe, who was in a tight race with Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte in the December pre-election survey of the Magdalo group, topped the presidential pre-election survey conducted last 3-5 February 2016, with 29.9 percent.

Poe is by followed by Duterte, with 26.6 percetage, who is statistically tied with Vice President Jejomar Binay with 25.5 percent. Coming in 4th place is former DILG Secretary Mar Roxas with 14 percent, followed in 5th spot by Senator Miriam Defensor-Santiago with 3.3 percent.

Congressman Francisco Ashley Acedillo, Magdalo party list representative, explained that similar to their previous pre-election surveys, randomly selected respondents were given a list of candidates running president/vice president, and were asked 'If elections would be held today, who among the following candidates would you vote for?'"

Acedillo further explained that in the previous months, Poe's rating declined which may be attributed to the confusion of the electorate brought by the disqualification cases filed against her. However, Poe's clarification on the developments regarding her case helped her regain the top spot in the survey.

Meanwhile, Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos is the new leading candidate for vice president based on the same survey, with a score of 28 percent, beating the long-time frontrunner for the position, Senator Francis "Chiz" Escuero with 26 percent.

Coming in third place is Senator Alan Peter Cayetano with 16.1 percent, followed by Congresswoman Leni Robredo with 14.3 percent, Senator Antonio Trillanes IV with 8.4 percent, and Senator Gregorio Honasan with 5 percent.

The survey employed a multi-stage probability sampling design with almost 3000 respondents distributed across the different regions of the country, and has a margin of error of 1.8%.
