Sen. Marcos Asks Palace To Sign Into Law SSS Pension
Hike Measure As Xmas Gift To Elderly Beneficiaries

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos, Jr. today urged the President to immediately sign into law the measure granting a P2,000 across-the-board increase in the monthly pension of Social Security System's beneficiaries.

On Monday the enrolled bill on the SSS pension hike was officially transmitted to Malacañang.

"That is probably the best Christmas gift the President can give to many of our elderly citizens who principally depend on their SSS pensions not only for their daily needs but also for their medicines as well," Marcos expressed.

Marcos is the co-author of the Senate version of the bill consolidating several similar measures proposing an increase in the monthly SSS pension. This was originally his Senate Bill No. 15 filed last July 2013.

"This measure is long overdue as rising prices already eroded the purchasing power of what little pensions our SSS members are getting," Marcos clarified.

The Senator noted that the current minimum SSS pension has not changed since 1997.

"Once enacted into law, the minimum monthly pension will increase to P3, 200 from the current P1, 200 for SSS members with at least 10 credited years of service," Marcos concluded.
