Sen. Marcos to join commemoration of the 2nd anniversary of Yolanda in Tacloban

Senator Ferdinand "Bongbong" R. Marcos will join the people of Tacloban City in a commemorative walk at dawn Sunday to mark the second anniversary of super-typhoon Yolanda that devastated the city and nearby areas last November 8, 2013.

Official government figures put the death toll of Yolanda at 6,033 but estimates put the actual number of fatalities a lot higher. Many of the victims were buried in mass graves.

"Together with my family I join people of Tacloban and other areas devastated by Yolanda not only in keeping alive the memories of the loved ones they lost but also in praying and in doing my part to help them rebuild their lives," Marcos said.

It could be recalled that Marcos had personally spearheaded his own relief efforts in Tacloban and nearby areas a week after Yolanda struck amid complaints of delays from the government's own relief and rescue initiatives.

The commemorative walk will begin with the assembly of participants in three points in the city: Magsaysay Boulevard, Sagkahan National High School, and in the vicinity of the Coca-Cola compound near the rotunda.

The commemorative walk will converge at the Tacloban Astrodome where a holy mass will be held.

Capping the morning rites is the unveiling of the Yolanda Memorial at the Astrodome, which served as refuge for many Taclobanons at the height of the typhoon.
