EJERCITO URGES PNOY: PUSH FOR FOI AS YOU DID FOR BBL

Senator JV today urged President Benigno Aquino III to ensure the swift enactment of the Freedom of Information Bill just as how he lobbied to Congress the passage of the Basic Bangsamoro Law.

Ejercito made this statement in preparation for his speech before the Senate next week which would respond to the issues President Aquino failed to include in his last State of the Nation Address, one of which is the government's delay in passing the FOI bill into law.

"President Aquino still wields strong political influence in Congress. It would make a world of difference if he would use this by pressuring the House to pass their version of the bill, just as what he did for BBL, and leave behind this legacy of genuine reform," Ejercito, as one of the principal authors of the FOI measure, said.

He added, "P-Noy needs to be reminded that FOI is primarily one of the reasons why 15 million Filipinos voted for him as president. If the government has nothing to hide, the FOI would serve as proof of their sincerity on transparency, accountability and good governance."

Ejercito hoped Aquino's latest pronouncement to pass FOI is not merely lip service just to avoid critical reaction from the media.
