Villar leads Senate in commending outstanding teachers

Sen. Cynthia Villar will sponsor the Senate resolution commending the 10 outstanding teachers in the country on Monday, Sept. 1.

Villar authored Proposed Senate Resolution No. 836, or the resolution congratulating and commending the Metrobank Foundation's Outstanding Teachers of 2014.

"Whereas, the outstanding teachers of our time deserve our accolade considering that next to our parents, the teachers have the most impact on our lives, as they instill in the minds of their students good moral values, as well as empower and train them to reach their fullest potential," the resolution reads.

The Senate will honor Anna Bella Abellera (Naga Central School 1, Naga City), Sharon Rose Puyo ( Cabadbaran South Central Elementary School), Enerio Ebida (Dona Juana Actub Memorial Central School, Iligan City), Allan Moore Cabrillas (San Jose West Central School, San Jose City, Nueva Ecija), Juanito Merle (Talipan National High School, Pagbilao, Quezon), Jesus Insilada (Alcarde Gustilo Memorial National High School, Calinog, Iloilo), Matrose Galarion (Angeles City National High School, Angeles City), Noel Ibis (Vinzons Pilot High School, Vinzons, Camarines Norte), Resurreccion Sadaba (University of the Philippines-Visayas, Miag-ao, Iloilo), and Teodora Balangcod (University of the Philippines-Baguio, Baguio City).

"I have the utmost respect for teachers, professor, educators or however else we refer to them. My late mother and I were once teachers, too. It is a privilege for both of us to have been part of the noble profession," Villar said.

The annual Metrobank Foundation's Search for Outstanding Teachers started in 1984 with the aim of honoring teachers who devote their lives to the profession of molding the minds of our youth. Villar chaired this year's final board of judges and co-chaired by Supreme Court Associate Justice Arturo Brion.

The Metrobank Foundation, Inc. has so far honored 326 outstanding teachers of the Philippines . This year's winners will be conferred with gold medallions and cash prize of P500,000 each. They will also receive a trophy and a plaque of recognition for their school.
