Statement of Senator Nancy Binay on Flag Days

Our national flag is our country's prominent symbol, universally known and displayed almost everywhere. It represents us Filipinos as a nation and a people.

Our flag was first unfurled on May 28, 1898 by General Emilio Aguinaldo when Filipino revolutionaries won the Battle of Alapan in Imus, Cavite. It was waved again when we declared our independence in Kawit, Cavite on June 12, 1898. Today, we commemorate the period from May 28 to June 12 as our Flag Days.

I encourage everyone to proudly display our national flag during this period to show our respect to this symbol.

For the past 116 years, our flag has served as a powerful icon of our freedom. It is our rallying point, our identity, and our symbol of unity as a people.

May our flag remind us - that despite hardships and adversity - the Philippines is a country of strong and resilient heroes and patriots.
