ANGARA COMMENDS PINAY TWO-TIME WORLD POOL
CHAMPION RUBILEN AMIT

Senator Juan Edgardo "Sonny" has filed a resolution commending and congratulating Rubilen Amit for bringing honor to the country by winning the 2013 Yalin Women's World 10-Ball Championship Title, and emerging as the first ever two-time women's pool titleholder in the world.

Amit reclaimed the most coveted title in women's billiards after defeating 2011 champion Kelly Fisher from Britain in a 10-7 victory at the Resorts World Manila on Monday, Nov. 4.

Amit had previously reigned in the prestigious competition in 2009 and with her recent victory, she has joined the ranks of Efren Reyes and Ronnie Alcano as the only two-time Filipino world champions in pool.

"Her latest feat has brought pride and honor to the country, and thus merits the government's recognition," said Angara, Chair of the Senate Committee on Games, Amusement and Sports.

A member of the Philippine billiard's team, Amit is recognized as the Philippines' first woman world pool champion and the country's top-ranking female cuemaster based on the World Pool-Billiard Association world ranking.

She is a three-time Southeast Asian Games gold medalist and has topped other various billiards competitions both local and international.

"Rubilen Amit has once again showcased the Filipino fighting spirit and passion for sports. Our world-class athletes with astounding talents like her have been a source of the country's pride and joy, and they truly deserve all the support and help they can get so they can reap more success in the future," Angara said.
