KOKO LAUDS EDUCATORS, CITES THEM FOR BIG ROLE
IN NATION BUILDING

Saying that their heroic dedication to their vocation has earned them the nation's highest respect, Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III today filed Senate Resolution No. 207, honoring and commending the ten outstanding teachers of the year who were chosen by the Metrobank Foundation, Inc.

The honorees that included four teachers from the elementary level, four from the secondary school, and two from higher education, drew two winners from Iloilo City. They are Fely Batiloy of the SPEED-Integrated School for Exceptional Children and Dominique Maquiran for the University of the Philippines High School.

The others are Mitchel Rodriquez of Odiongan Central School, Gingoog City; Cherry Vinluan of Guagua Elementary School, Pampanga; Rodel Sampang of Pedro Guevarra ES, Manila; Marcelo Otinguey, Ampisongan National HS, Bakun, Benquet; Maria Teresa Bautista, Bacnotan Natl. HS, La Union; Maria Lorna Garnace, Phil. Science HS-Eastern Visayas, Palo, Leyte; and Emilyn Espiritu, Ateneo University, Quezon City.

Pimentel, whose parents were once upon a time both teachers, said that the greatest role of the teachers, who are considered as the second parents of the students, "is empowering the mind of the students and training them so they may reach their fullest potential."

He stressed the important work of the teachers and their sacrifices for educational advancement, as well as their important contributions to the development of humanity and modern society.

Pimentel said that for the last 29 years, the Metrobank Foundation has honored 316 outstanding teachers who have served as "shining examples of dedication and commitment to the teaching profession."

He said that the recognition given by the organizers of the awards has made the honorees "the pride and joy not only of their respective schools and communities, but also the nation as well."

"This recognition is a fitting tribute for educators who have excelled in their noble profession in the selfless pursuit of quality education," said Pimentel, adding that the "teachers have the most impact on our lives, instilling in us good moral values and making a profound difference in the paths that we have chosen."
