2013 elections critical to sustaining growth -- Pimentel

Re-electionist Senator Aquilino "Koko" Pimentel III, PDP Laban President, today lauded the rating upgrade received by the Philippines from Standard & Poor's on Thursday saying that it is a validation of the administration's pursuit of good governance.

"I believe that the recent credit rating upgrade of the Philippines is evidence that President Aquino's 'daang matuwid' philosophy is gaining ground," Pimentel explained.

On top of the higher-than-expected 6.6 percent growth of the economy in 2012, a low inflation rate of a little over 3.2 percent last March, the Philippines recently got a credit rating upgrade from BB+ to BBB-.

While the senator from Mindanao cautioned that much needs to be done to ensure that the growth is sustainable and that "it will reach the poorest of the poor" he stressed that the successful drive of the administration against corruption is making the country very attractive to investments.

"Sustaining this growth means we need to continue with the policy of PNoy," Pimentel stressed.

Pimentel, who is running for re-election under the administration's ticket, urged voters to consider this when they vote on May 13.

"This midterm election is very critical," he said in a statement, "we cannot return to the old ways when people in power abuse that power."

"I urge our people to vote intelligently in order to continue our path to progress."
