Bay, It's Better to Buy!
Cayetano tells DTI to promote local products

Inspired by his recent visit to Cebu City - where he met with factory workers of Woven Furniture, Senator Alan Cayetano called on the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to follow the successful campaign of the Department of Tourism (DOT) that uses the slogan "It's More Fun in the Philippines" with its own campaign to promote Filipino products, using a slogan to the effect of "It's Better to Buy in the Philippines."

This campaign will not only entice foreigners to shop in the Philippines but will encourage Filipinos to purchase locally made products. "Filipinos need to be reminded that it's better to buy in the Philippines," Cayetano said.

The factory workers revealed to Cayetano how the lack of local support for their products has prompted the loss of over 30,000 jobs in the region. "It is such a waste because Cebu could be the furniture capital of Asia," Cayetano observed. "And yet imported goods are beating locally made products in terms of sales."

This prompted Cayetano to call on the government to support the Cebu furniture industry by promoting its products as well as providing the business owners access to necessary capital to keep the business afloat.

Cayetano is touring the country, asking various sectors about their concerns relating to lowering prices, increasing employment and wages as part of his fight for higher PiTiK: Presyo, Trabaho, Kita for all Filipinos. He proceeded to Legaspi City, Albay today to talk to the coconut farmers in the area about their livelihood concerns.
