SENATOR ANGARA'S NEW YEAR'S MESSAGE

Our nation faced a great many obstacles this past year. Natural calamities claimed numerous lives and destroyed property. Territorial disputes raised regional and even geopolitical tensions. Political intrigue rocked not just one, but all the intertwined branches of our government.

On the other hand, this year also strengthened us as a people. Our economy is becoming stronger, securing further its place in the global market. On different occasions, our countrymen were recognized for their successes in the global stage.

The Filipino spirit is strong. We pulled through these extreme highs and lows with resilience and determination. We welcome 2013 with the knowledge and priceless lessons gained from these experiences.

More importantly, we enter the coming year with a renewed sense of purpose. Landmark laws were recently passed, heralding the continuing arrival of true reform in our country.

These timely changes--with the continued cooperation of our leaders--will make 2013 a milestone in the ongoing effort to enact real change and unleash the great potential of the Philippines.

Let us continue looking forward to a brighter future for us all.
