Senates gives green light to creation of 50 schools

The Senate today approved on third and final reading 50 House bills creating, renaming and converting 50 high schools nationwide.

Sen. Edgardo Angara, chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Arts and Culture Committee and sponsor of the bills, said the enactment of the measures into law will improve the quality of education and widen the access to learning facilities. "These high schools are strategically located all over the country and these ensure the broadening access to secondary schooling in the country, especially in the light of the K plus 12," he said. "We would need this national network because we will add, once this K-12 is passed and enacted by us, two years in high schools, grades 11 and 12. That is when the skills training will be injected into the curriculum that will make a high school graduate employable," Angara said. "K plus 12" aims to make basic education sufficient enough so that anyone who graduates can be gainfully employed and have a productive life. "K plus 12" will look at the possibility of specialized education such as a high school or community, which will focus on the arts or agriculture. The 50 high schools are Tinago National High School, West Coast National High School, Alangilan Integrated School, Buenavista National High School, San Antonio National High School, V & G National High School, Macambol National High School, Liloan National Technical-Vocational High School, Sto.
