Senate approves 35 new courts in Cavite

A bill pushing for the creation of 27 additional Regional Trial Courts (RTCs) and Eight Municipal Trial Courts (MTCs) in the province of Cavite was approved in the Senate today on third and final reading.

Senate Bill 2539 was approved with 18 affirmative votes, 0 negative vote and 0 abstention.

The bill was introduced by Senator Ramon Bong Revilla Jr., a native of Cavite province.

"The number of disposed cases will always be lower than the number of cases being filed everyday in different trial courts no matter how efficient the Presiding Judge may be. In such instances, the cases being filed are most often overwhelming," Revilla said, explaining why Cavite needs the additional courts. Ten additional Regional Trial Court branches for Bacoor; eight additional Regional Trial Court branches for Imus; Two additional Regional Trial Court branches for Dasmariñas City; Two additional Regional Trial Court branches for Trece Martires City; One additional Regional Trial Court branches for Naic and four additional Regional Trial Court branches for Tagaytay City, will be created in the fourth Judicial Region of Cavite. Eight additional MTCs shall also be created composed of three MTCs in Bacoor, three MTCs in Imus and three MTCs Dasmarinas. (OLIVE CAUNAN, PRIB)
