CHIZ TO PNP: GO AFTER ILLEGAL RACERS WHOEVER THEY MAY BE

The Philippine National Police (PNP) should pursue without let up in identifying and in filing the necessary charges against the perpetrators in the mauling of a Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) traffic aide who tried to stop them from the illegal motor race over the weekend, Senator Chiz Escudero said.

MMDA traffic aide Raul Reoteros was severely beaten up by drag racers last Saturday when he tried to prevent an on-going illegal race along Macapagal Boulevard in the wee hours of the morning.

The mob left Reoteros with head wounds and bruises all over his body along Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard, a popular spot among car and bike enthusiasts who engage in drag racing and drinking binge.

"This incident is deplorable. The poor traffic aide was simply trying to do his job and protect these little devils from themselves," Escudero, chairman of the Senate committee on justice and human rights, said. "This act of aggression from law breakers must not be tolerated and our PNP must track down these individuals so that proper charges could be filed against them, whoever they may be or whoever their parents may be."

"This unsanctioned car or scooter races is dangerous. It endangers not only the racers' lives and properties, but also those of the innocent passersby. They're racing against their lives and against our law and order. We cannot and should not let this pass," Escudero explained.
