SEN. GUINGONA CHAMPIONS GOOD GOVERNANCE IN ILOILO
REFORM ADVOCATE GIVES P3-M TO PROVINCIAL HEALTH FACILITIES

ILOILO CITY - To promote transparency and accountability in government, Senator Teofisto "TG" Guingona III is set to meet hundreds of Ilonggo youth today to encourage them to actively take part in ushering reforms in the country.

"Good governance is the core solution to our nation's problems. I want to emphasize among the youth today that we just do not stand back and watch. They should ask questions and be an active part of the solution in transforming on how our institutions are managed," Sen. Guingona said. The good governance champion will attend two separate forums on good governance at the University of San Agustin and at the Central Philippine University.

"There is a need for a change in this country, and the youth should be a big part of this change. They need to know that if we do not transform on how our institutions are managed, all efforts for transparency and accountability will just go to waste. We need to strengthen the capacity of our institutions to make the right decisions, and to regain our people's trust in government," he said.

Likewise, Sen. Guingona will be signing a memorandum of agreement (MOA) with two health institutions in Iloilo where he is giving P1.5 million each to the Western Visayas Medical Center and the Western Visayas State University Medical Center.

Sen. Guingona has allocated a huge portion of his priority development assistance fund (PDAF) to assist various social services programs throughout the country. The funds are funneled to public hospitals and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in order for the poor and marginalized Filipinos gain access to proper health services. In Mindanao alone, his medical services allocation is P12 million.

"As a Senator, I believe that government should make an investment in priority areas such as healthcare and education. The poor and marginalized should get direct, immediate and substantial assistance from the government. Ito ang pinangako ko sa taumbayan at ito ang aking tutuparin hanggang matapos ang aking termino," Sen. Guingona said.

Sen. Guingona, a reforms advocate, added that transparency and accountability are important tenets of good governance.

He added that in pursuing good governance reforms, the Filipinos from all sectors need to be empowered and shun away from dependence in traditional political patrons.

Sen. Guingona pushes for this empowerment as he touch base with all forces of reform -from government, business community and grassroots - to pursue support for good governance reforms.
