Legarda Supports Meet Between P-Noy And MILF Chair

The chair of the Senate Committee on Foreign Relations Senator Loren Legarda today expressed her support to President Benigno Aquino III in meeting with Murad Ebrahim, chair of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) in Tokyo, Japan, to push forward the peace process between the government and the Muslim rebels in Mindanao.

"The meet on the highest level on both sides has planted the trust and good faith so necessary for the peace process to prosper. This can only augur well for the early conclusion of the peace process," Legarda said.

Legarda said that trust and faith between two sides have been fostered by this meeting. The reported dropping by the MILF of their secessionist agenda "is a major milestone in the peace process," she added.

"A lot of trust and faith have been fostered therefrom. That the MILF reportedly categorically dropped their secessionist agenda is a major milestone in the peace process," according to Legarda.

"Mindanao is the richest part of our country in terms of mineral and other resources. That the peace process will more likely result to a peace agreement is good for all 100 million Filipinos. After all, no economic development can happen without political order," the Senator concluded.
