BONG REVILLA ENTHRONED AS SULTAN

In recognition of his efforts to alleviate the plight of Muslim Filipinos and uphold the progress of Mindanao, Senator Ramon Bong Revilla, Jr. was adopted as a son of the Province of Sultan Kudarat and enthroned as Sultan.

In an enthronement and conferment ceremony conducted last Saturday (June 25) in the Sultan Kudarat Provincial Capitol, the lawmaker was installed as Sultan Aadil or Prince of Justice. His investiture coincided with the enthronement of 16 Malaysian nationals as Datus.

In his acceptance speech, Bong Revilla vowed to continue to promote further the development of Mindanao and protect the welfare of its people. "Rest assured, I will not disgrace this title. I will continue fight for your rights, particularly for the rights of our Muslim brothers and sisters," he said.

In particular, the senator promised to push for the immediate passage of Senate Bill No. 1990, the bill that he filed that would prohibit the use of the words "Muslim" and "Islamic" in all forms of media, to refer to any person suspected or convicted of criminal acts. He pointed out that his legislative proposal would help drive the path towards a just, fair and lasting peace and development in the country.

"Outlawing this culturally and religiously biased practice would definitely contribute in increased positive social space and understanding between Muslims and non-Muslims. We will exert all efforts for the passage of our bill and add this to your senators' 108 bills already passed into law," Bong Revilla added.

The enthronement of the senator and the Malaysian nationals was done and attested by former Congressman Sultan Pakung "Pax" Mangudadatu in his capacity as Rajah Buayan Sultanate IV in Mindanao and Dato Dr. Haji Yassin Noor, Honorary Chairman of the Royal Mindanao-Malaysia Friendship Society. Among those who witnessed the investiture were Sultan Kudarat Governor Suharto "Teng" Mangudadatu and former Tarlac Governor Margarita "Tingting" Cojuangco.
