Sen. Miriam Defensor Santiago said she will invite world boxing champion and Sarangani Representative Manny Pacquiao, his wife Jinky, and his mother, Dionisia, to her wedding anniversary on June 19.

Santiago was reacting to the proposal of a call-in listener during a talk show hosted by Rey Langit yesterday (25 May 2011).

"Pugilistic excellence is not one of my ambitions. I have no desire to spar with Pacman. I feel affection for him and Aling Dionisia, because we are all Visayans," she said.

Some news reports implied that Dionisia allegedly criticized Santiago, after the senator made light of Pacquiao's anti-RH position.

"I didn't mean to offend. It was just an affectionate appeal in the Ilongo dialect," Santiago said of the alleged rift.

To another call-in listener's suggestion for her to reconsider and invite longtime political foe, Fidel Ramos, to the wedding event, Santiago said: "There is no law that compels me to invite people I actively dislike."
