SENATOR KIKO PANGILINAN'S STATEMENT ON THE BOMBING
OF PASSENGER BUS ON EDSA

We condemn this latest act of lawlessness that has led to the senseless killing and maiming of our citizens. But we equally condemn the system of justice that has perpetuated brazen criminal act such as this. The lasting solution to lawlessness is strengthening the long arm of the law in a system that swiftly punishes the guilty. Only when the system of justice works will we see the end of lawlessness and criminality.

In view of recent events that have seen the brutal killings in the carjacking cases, the assassination of a member of the media in Palawan, and now this, the President should seriously consider designating an anti-crime czar to help track and lead to the arrest of the masterminds behind these dastardly criminal acts. The Executive Department should also initiate the convening of the Judiciary Executive Legislative Advisory and Consultative Council or JELACC and see how the three branches of government can set a common strategy to modernize the administration of justice in the country.

The President has called on the citizenry to do their part by being vigilant and help report leads to the cases. The administration should then do its part in ensuring swift prosecution and for justice to be meted out to those proven guilty.
