in improving housing sector

Senator Bongbong Marcos attended on 19 January 2011 the first meeting of the Housing and Urban Development Coordinating Council (HUDCC) under the tutelage of Chairman, Vice-President Jejomar Binay at the National Housing Authority (NHA). Senator Bongbong, in his capacity as representative of the Senate and as chairman of the Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlements, said that he supports the vision and initiatives of the HUDCC, more especially the subsumption of all the public key shelter agencies into one Department of Housing, as well as the humanitarian resettlement of informal settlers, and a national housing program for teachers and uniformed personnel which is covered by Senate bills presently pending in his committee.

Senator Bongbong although specifically emphasized that the resettlement efforts of the government should always be animated by the concept of building livable communities, rather than plain and physical relocation without more. As regards the national housing program, Senator Marcos said that he intends to expand the bill's coverage to include not just teachers and uniformed personnel, but all government personnel. For this purpose, he requested the NHA to provide information on available government lands. Lastly, he underscored that the private sector should always be involved in the whole system geared towards improvement of the national housing sector.
