Loren's VP bid draws all-out NPC support

Senator Loren Legarda profusely thanked her party, the Nationalist People's Coalition (NPC), for "going all-out" in support of her vice presidential candidacy in the 2010 May elections.

Loren met last night with the veritable who's who of the NPC at the party's headquarters in New Manila, Quezon City, during which the senator rallied support for her six-point Pro-People, Pro-Environment and Pro-God agenda.

"I am very proud to be a member of this party. I know that the NPC is a party of principles, and that it is a party totally devoted to the public interest. It is a party that seeks above all a strong and progressive nation, where no citizen is left behind in the march to social and economic advance," said Loren.

"I shall always be grateful to the NPC for giving me your full support in all my advocacies. You have allowed me to pursue the economic and social emancipation of the poor. You have encouraged me to put the environment on the national agenda, so that we can protect the health and safety of our people even as we seek the highest levels of economic growth," she added.

NPC officials led by party chairman Faustino Dy, Rep. Jack Duavit, Frisco San Juan and Rex Gatchalian said that Loren can do a lot to help ease the plight of poor Filipinos, lead the economic recovery of the Philippines and better prepare the country against the devastating effects of climate change.

They were one in saying that Loren has proven herself to be a leader with a vision, one who has an impeccable track record as an anti-corruption advocate, crusading journalist, lawmaker, environmentalist and a prime mover in empowering women.

Loren's six-point agenda delves on lifting Filipinos from poverty, protecting overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), ensuring good governance, taking care of the environment, continuing the peace process and rediscovering the Filipino culture and heritage.

Loren further told her partymates: "You have stood solidly behind me in defense of our civil and human rights, and in bringing about the peaceful resolution of the longstanding armed conflict.

"And you have extended every support to my efforts to provide special protection to the less fortunate in our society - the overburdened mothers, the homeless and out-of-school children, the unemployed, the victims of human trafficking and our modern heroes, the OFWs."
