Zubiri launches "Mobile Soup Kitchen" for victims of Ondoy

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri has launched the "mobile soup kitchen" to provide relief assistance to victims of Tropical storm Ondoy.

"The mobile soup kitchen was launched Monday night and has initially benefited about 300 to 500 families or over a thousand individuals in Cainta, Rizal. Today, we are targeting at least two areas, one in Masambong in Quezon City and the other one in San Mateo, Rizal," Zubiri said.

The senator said the mobile soup kitchen will start at around 3p.m., in Masambong, Quezon City, wherein 500 families are expected to benefit. The second area will cover San Mateo, Rizal, where he is expecting to help more families by giving them hot soup beginning at 7p.m.

Zubiri said he refrained from giving out noodles and canned goods to the victims of Ondoy because "the victims themselves were the ones asking if we can give them cooked food so they wouldn't have to worry where to get clean water or how to prepare them."

The senator added: "The target areas of the mobile soup kitchen include Tramo in Pasay and Parola in Tondo, among others.

"I would like to inform the public that this effort is not solely mine. The hot soup that we serve to the public also come from the kind assistance of some provincial government officials who willingly shared their blessings to those who are badly in need," Zubiri said.

"I therefore encourage everyone to extend support in whatever way they can to serve our people be it in food, clothing or services," he added.
