Gordon to HR practitioners: Always have the 5 Fs to keep afloat
amidst the global crisis

Senator Richard J. Gordon ( Ind. ) advised human resources practitioners that they should be focused, friendly, fast, flexible and forward-looking in order to keep afloat despite the financial crisis that has wreaked havoc in the world's economy.

Speaking at the HR Professionals Summit on Talent Retention, Gordon said HR practitioners should have the five Fs and the ability to transform their people so their company will grow despite the global crisis.

"HR is a position of leadership, a position where you uplift people. The job of a leader is to lead and transform our people. Believe and make sure that you have the five Fs," he said.

Gordon pointed out that HR practitioners should define their company to ensure that their people will know their history and where they are headed for.

"Define your own company, your own leadership, and your own people. If you don't define them then they won't know who they are. If you want to retain your own human resources, you have to make them proud of their heritage, of their past," he said.

Gordon also noted that HR practitioners should always look for new ideas and learn how to adapt to the challenges of the times.

"It is important that you in HR learn the value of transformation. You have to make sure that you transform yourself all the time. Look for young ideas. Remember, transformation is better that transaction," he said.
