KIKO PANGILINAN: LP SHOULD ALLOW PADACA AND AQUINO SUPPORTERS TO PUSH FOR THEIR RESPECTIVE CANDIDACIES

Senator Francis "Kiko" Pangilinan today says that senator Noynoy Aquino and governor Grace Padaca supporters in the Liberal Party should be allowed to push for their candidacies, even for the presidential race.

"Democratic processes should be upheld, and the widest participation of all party members should be observed in the nomination of the party's standard bearers," says Pangilinan. "The party processes involving the membership, and not a few personalities, should decide on major issues such as the party's standard bearers."

Pangilinan, who earlier stated his intention to run as an independent for the vice presidency, expresses his willingness to support either Padaca or Aquino if it will unite a true reformist agenda.

"What's important is that a true reform agenda emerges. If it takes the candidacy of either Padaca or Aquino to achieve this, then I'm willing to support that."

"All reform forces must unite on a progressive agenda that will offer fresh and inspiring leadership. It's time we stop looking at politics as a choice between administration and opposition, but begin to see it as a choice between change or more of the same. All groups and individuals committed to genuine change must unite, and the LP can be the catalyst for this. But it can only do so if its standard bearers are chosen because of their proven commitment to alternative politics and genuine change. The old ways of politics, the old song and dance, have not worked and are being rejected by the people, yet our leaders continue to feed them with garbage in their efforts to win the vote. We need new leaders who are willing to walk the talk of new and principled politics. We challenge the Liberal Party to provide genuine leadership for our nation."
