Senate to suspend session for a week to mourn the passing
of President Cory

Senate Majority Leader Juan Miguel Zubiri today announced that the Senate will suspend its session the whole week to mourn the lost of former president and great leader Corazon "Cory" Aquino.

The Majority Leader said the Senate will open its session Monday only to give way to the eulogy and prayers that will be offered for President Aquino.

"We will suspend this session from Monday to Thursday to pay tribute and honor in this time of grief of the passing of a Great Leader, a person whose legacy of restoring the Philippine Democracy, shall never be forgotten. In remembrance of her selflessness and dedication in this moment of grief and solemnity the Senate shall adjourn session for the whole week and resume session on August 10, 2009," Zubiri said.

"We open the session today (Monday) with prayers as tribute to the former chief executive, but we will not take any business agenda in deference to the death of our great leader," he added.

He likewise explained that the business agenda of the Senate supposedly set for the week will be discussed next week.

He however, explained that while he has already announced that the upper chamber will not tackle any business agenda for the week including today "the Senate will ratify the bicam report for the extension of the Agrarian Reform Program today as tribute and respect to the former president who made it her flagship program during her administration."

In behalf of the Senate the Majority Leader is once again expressing his deepest sympathy and condolences to the Aquino and Conjuangco Family.
