STATEMENT OF SENATOR EDGARDO J. ANGARA

My sincerest condolences go to our colleague, Sen. Noynoy Aquino and his siblings over the passing away of President Cory.

President Cory started my political career when while at the University of the Philippines, she invited me to run for the Senate under her ticket. With her, I felt the nation was turning a fresh chapter.

I have had personal and memorable recollections of her but this may not be the proper time and place to recount them.

She led the Philippines through a difficult transition to democracy. And even after her term, she continued to be the country's conscience, supporting causes and keeping a steady voice of faith, hope and justice.

President Aquino was a woman of quiet strength and unyielding determination. To this day, she remains a symbol of democracy and hope, inspiring millions of people everywhere to attaining them.
