ON SENSELESS KILLINGS

The separate killings of radio broadcaster Godofredo Linao of Surigao del Sur and retired Judge Erasto Salcedo of Davao del Norte show the police inability to protect our people from lawless elements. It also underscores the constant danger journalists and justice administrators in the provinces are exposed to in the pursuit of their jobs.

People in Metro Manila are no more safe, as in the case of Antonina Marina "Tara" Santelices. She was shot in the head when she fought off a robbery inside a jeepney in Cainta, Rizal almost a year ago. She died last Monday.

I extend my deepest condolences to the families of these victims. I condemn in no uncertain terms these senseless killings and call on our authorities to act swiftly in solving them. This is the only way we can seek justice for their untimely and needless deaths.
