STATEMENT OF SENATOR AQUILINO Q. PIMENTEL, JR.

On the statement of AFP chief, Maj. Gen. Victor Ibrado that he will not accept any position in government after he retires.

If Gen. Ibrado keeps his word, he will stand out head over heels over his colleagues in the AFP who apparently waited for golden parachutes after retirement from the military to land sinecures in the civilian side of government.

If Ibrado means what he says he has my support for his appointment as AFP Chief of Staff, assuming of course, he is not hiding anything from the people ever since he became an officer of the armed forces.

He would be a fresh whiff of air in the atmosphere of miasma that envelopes government offices today.

On Enrile's assessment that President Arroyo performed better than other presidents.

If "GMA is better than other presidents" as the Star quotes the Senate President, how come that the Star in the same issue headlined a story that "High-level corruption abounds in RP, according to Freedom House". Freedom House is probably a US think tank. And this assessment coming shortly before the visit of GMA to the White House.

Then what about extrajudicial killings? And forced disappearances? The kidnappings? And the killings of Muslim civilians in the troubled areas of Muslim Mindanao?

These matters must be a part of GMA's record if she is being touted as "better than other presidents."
