Statement of the Majority Leader on Vagni's release

"In behalf of the Filipino people I congratulate all those who facilitated and helped in the release of Italian volunteer Eugenio Vagni.

"I believe this is another triumph for humanitarian workers all over the world that we have finally got our three ICRC volunteers safe after they were held captive by the Abu Sayyaf Group.

"We should also give credit to the Armed Forces of the Philippines, as well as to the local government of Sulu because despite the limitations to the negotiations they did not surrender to the challenge of ASG to give up control of the island.

"I likewise appeal to all to stop putting political color on this issue instead we should take pride that finally Vagni is already in the hands of Task Force Comet Commander Juancho Sabban and Sulu Vice Governor Lady Anne Sahidula after almost six months of captivity.

"The Armed Forces should pursue operations against these Abu Sayyaf terrorists to give justice to the horrendous experiences of Vagni, Mary Jean Lacaba and Swiss national Andreas Notter."
