CHIZ: CHA-CHA TRY IS REASON TO DISTRUST GMA

Opposition Sen. Chiz Escudero said the shameless bid of allies of President Arroyo in the House of Representatives to force constitutional amendments through a Constituent Assembly (Con-Ass) without the participation of the Senate only gives people more reason to distrust the president.

"To force Con-Ass without Senate participation is living proof that people have reason to distrust the President. Her plummeting survey has a basis in her inaction in tempering her House allies," he said.

"I challenge her to order her men in the House to stop this madness and prove the people wrong that she is out to perpetuate herself in power," said Escudero, who is chair of the Senate Committee on Constitutional Amendments and Revision of Laws.

According to the latest Pulse Asia survey, a total of 48 percent of those asked had little or no trust in the highest official of the land, while 46 percent disapproved of Mrs. Arroyo's performance.

A total of 1,200 adults were interviewed by the pollster from May 4 to 17.

"I expect her trust ratings to hit the floor or her distrust grades to go over the roof if the people are surveyed at this time. She can't really complain about deteriorating trust, if at all, its her wrongdoing," he said.

He reiterated his call to members of the House of Representatives who signed the resolution for the Con-Ass to withdraw their signatures and be one with the people.

"I remind you again that you are representatives of the people, not of any political interests and certainly not of the President. You have to choose now which side are you on and I will tell you now: you will never go wrong if you side with the people."
