Enrile resolution commends Pacquiao

Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile today filed Senate Resolution 1042 commending Filipino boxer Manny "The Pac-Man" Pacquiao for winning the International Boxing Organization (IBO) and the Ring Magazine World Light Welterweight title after defeating British champion Ricky "The Hitman" Hatton at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last Sunday.

In his proposed resolution, Enrile said Pacquiao's performance in knocking down Hatton in the second round of their fight "deserves to be commended for the honor and recognition he has brought to our country."

By defeating Hatton, Enrile said Pacquiao has again made our country proud and has shown the world the spirit of Filipino competitiveness and excellence in the boxing arena.

"Manny Pacquiao fought and displayed high quality sportsmanship and fair play in victory and undoubtedly gave his best to bring honor and glory for our country," the resolution said. "Filipino boxers like Manny Pacquiao, Brian Villoria and Nonito Donaire have proven to the whole world that the Filipinos are still the best in the boxing arena."

The resolution said Pacquiao's victory "cemented his claim to being the best pound-for-pound boxer in the world."
