KIKO TO HOUSE: BYPASS SENATE AND FACE THE PEOPLE'S WRATH

Following Kampi president Rep. Luis Villafuerte's announcement that he is pushing for a Constituent Assembly in the House of Representatives, Independent senator Kiko Pangilinan today warned proponents of Con-Ass not to "try to bypass the Senate and face the people's wrath."

"If the administration allies in the House will recklessly push for it, this may very well be the spark that will lead to a people's uprising against this government. Our call to government: Get real! Stop ChaCha now. They do not have the support from a vast majority of our people to make it happen. Don't test the patience of our people battered by tremendous economic hardships," Kiko warned.

"Once ConAss is underway, political law principles provide that a constituent assembly is like a fourth branch of government and no one can prevent the discussion of term extension or other amendments such as the shift to a parliamentary form of government. The Constitution allows for everything and anything to be tackled in a ConAss," Kiko said.

"Every decent, freedom-loving Filipino will stand up and vigorously oppose Charter Change as they did in the past. We have seen what this administration is capable of doing both fair and foul to push for Charter Change, and the people have been steadfast in stopping its initiatives. The Filipino people will not be taken for a ride," Kiko ended.
