Gordon commends Pacquiao as the 'Foremost Fighter of the Century'

Independent Senator Richard J. Gordon today acclaimed Philippine boxing champ Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao for showing the world the strength of Filipino character by defeating Oscar "Golden Boy" Dela Hoya.

To commend the boxing champ, Gordon filed Senate Resolution No. 803, which proposes to honor Pacquiao for excelling in the field of international boxing and for bringing glory to the Filipino nation.

"Manny (Pacquiao) has shown the world the strength of the Filipino character, lifting himself by his own bootstraps against poverty and insurmountable odds," he said.

"It is very fitting then that we honor Manny "Pacman" Pacquiao as 'The Philippines' Foremost Fighter of the Century,'" he added.

The senator lauded Pacquiao's admirable work ethic, as well as his courage and determination, which have carried him through the struggle to become the best in his craft.

Gordon noted that Pacquiao's historic victory, served as a unifying force in the nation's quest for national greatness and hence, worthy of emulation, especially among the Filipino youth.

"His valiant efforts and indefatigable spirit exemplify Filipino excellence and serve as a unifying force for a common cause among Filipinos in conquest for national greatness, pride and honor," he said.

"Pacquiao's heroic and historic achievement is worthy of emulation and truly deserving of national praise and recognition," he added.

Pacquiao, tagged as the "Pambansang Kamao," won a resounding knock out victory in the Welterweight bout against the ten-time world champion held at MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada last Saturday.
