Gordon to speak at 34th KBP confab

Independent Senator Richard J. Gordon will speak before delegates of the 34th Top Level Management Conference (TLMC) of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) to be held at Taal Vista, Tagaytay City on Nov. 14.

As chairman of the Senate constitutional amendments committee, Gordon is expected to share his views on the crucial role media play in the country's political and economic transformation.

"It is always a privilege to share views with our friends in the broadcast media. I do hope I could enlighten them on the significant role media play in transforming the political and economic situation in the country," he said.

The TLMC is the annual meeting of KBP members aimed at discussing critical issues that affect the broadcast industry. This year's conference carries a theme, "Keeping the broadcast power."

As a strong advocate for political change, Gordon is expected to expound on the role media play in bringing out the truth on issues affecting the society, especially in transforming political and economic atmosphere in the country.

The senator has been leading the country in addressing the negative political issues of the past by introducing substantial reforms to achieve a credible and stable political set-up in the country.

"We need to reform our political system and introduce creative innovations to our economic approaches. We also need to push for significant changes so that the country can cope with the global trend and be at par with other developing nations," he said.

Gordon has been pushing for electoral reforms through Republic Act (RA) 9369, or the Amended Automated Elections Law, which he authored. The law called for the pilot testing of automated election systems in six cities and six provinces prior to its implementation in a national election.

Last August 11, RA 9369 was implemented in the Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao automated elections, which was a success with the 84 percent voter turn-out and with only a two-day waiting period for the proclamation of the winners.

In his first-term in the Senate, Gordon is also vigorously pushing for the complete automation of the presidential, congressional and local elections on May 2010, the passage of several measures, including political turncoatism, campaign finance reform, and early-voting scheme, among others.
